Pakistan, Turkiye, Qatar and Indonesia to sign defence industry pact

by PT24 Aditor

Pakistan, Turkiye, Qatar and Indonesia will in Doha sign a memorandum of understanding (MoU) to expand cooperation in defence production, technology transfer and supply chains, Anadolu Agency has reported citing Turkiye’s Defence Industries Secretariat (SSB).

The agreement will bring the four countries’ existing defence industry partnerships under a multilateral framework and focus on joint production, interoperability and the integration of supply chains rather than limiting cooperation to the supply of military equipment.

The planned MoU will bring these separate partnerships into a wider framework, with the four countries seeking to expand joint production, technology transfer and long-term defence industry cooperation.

It may be noted that the reported pact comes months after Pakistan entered into a mutual defence agreement with Saudi Arabia and Turkiye, under which an attack on any of the three countries is to be considered an attack on all three.

It also comes as the situation in the Middle East continues to worsen due to the ongoing conflicts involving the US, Iran, Yemen’s Houthi rebels and Saudi Arabia.
