The President of the United States (US) Donald Trump has backed the new defence arrangement under which Türkiye and Pakistan will provide military assistance to Saudi Arabia.
On Wednesday, while speaking to reporters at the White House before leaving for Texas, Trump was asked about Pakistan and Türkiye’s decision to deploy military forces to Saudi Arabia under the Makkah Joint Defence Agreement.
“I think they want to help Saudi Arabia, and I think that’s great,” he replied.
The agreement was reached on Monday by Pakistan, Türkiye and Saudi Arabia with the three countries deciding to begin implementing their collective defence commitments immediately.
A statement said that the Strategic Political and Defense Committee of Makkah had agreed to take steps to ensure the rapid deployment of the military forces and capabilities committed to Saudi Arabia.
“The Committee (Strategic Political and Defense Committee of Mecca) decided to move immediately to the practical implementation of the collective defense commitments and to take the necessary measures to provide the agreed military forces and capabilities and ensure their rapid deployment in the Kingdom, in accordance with the approved arrangements and the national legislation of the Parties, thereby enhancing readiness, military integration, and the collective capacity to confront and counter threats,” it said.
