Salman Naseer announces PSL Sixes tournament

Pakistan Super League (PSL) chief executive Salman Naseer has announced that a new tournament called the HBL PSL Sixes will be launched in the near future.

He revealed the plan on a recent PSL podcast saying, “There are exciting things, and one of them is a sixes tournament. It will be called the HBL PSL Sixes.”

The host asked whether the event will take place during the main tournament. Naseer said it would not. The league wants to hold it in the off-season, describing it as a mid-year event. The idea came from a discussion about what the league can do once the HBL PSL ends.

“We could hold it mid-year at any time when players are available and weather conditions are good,” he pointed out. He wants the tournament to become a regular fixture. “Over the next few years, Insha’Allah, we will see it become a recurring feature,” he said.

He called it “very exciting, entertaining, and engaging for the fans.”

Naseer also sees the event as a route to reach new places. The league could use smaller stadiums and smaller cities where it has not yet played officially. “We know fans want to see us there,” he said. “So, this smaller event might be doable.”

The league has grown steadily since its first edition in 2016, when five teams took part. Multan Sultans joined in 2018, and the field reached eight teams for HBL PSL 11 in 2026.

HBL PSL 12 will run from March 18 to May 2, 2027, with all eight franchises returning to the arena.
